When they say, " What can I bring?"

You're having friends over and the inevitable, dreaded "what can I bring" question comes up? You don't want to put anyone out by asking too much, but you don't want anyone to feel awkward by showing up empty handed...
Some ideas I swear by:
Keep It Simple
citrus - always great for cocktails!
ice - even better for cocktails, plus you can never have enough!
something they like to drink
Make it Complimentary
Fresh, good bread
a simple salad
their go-to dessert
It fills in the table without complicating your menu.
Other tips:
Play to Their Strengths
If someone loves to bake, suggest a dessert. If they’re coming straight from another commitment, drinks or flowers are a good option. Keep it simple.
Be Flexible
Instead of assigning exact dishes, give a category: “How about a veggie?” or “Something sweet would be great.”
It keeps things balanced but still easy.
Final Thoughts
Guests love to contribute, a simple: “I’ve got dinner covered—if you want to bring something, a salad or dessert would be great. But truly, just bring yourself!”
Don't over think it too much.
