First impressions are important - they can set the tone for the whole evening! So while we're not looking for perfection, it's important to note that easy, small, intentional touches can instantly make your guests feel welcome.
Here are my go-to's:
1. A Warm Greeting (with Your Own Drink in Hand)
How you greet guests sets the tone for the entire evening. I like to have my own glass of whatever we are serving in hand—it instantly tells guests, “I’m relaxed and ready to enjoy this night with you.”
2. A Simple Comfort Offering (Even in the Little Spaces)
Nothing says “welcome” like a small comfort. An often overlooked area: your bathroom. Leave a light on so no one has to ask where the restroom is or fumble around in the dark for a lightswich. It's the little things, afterall, that make the biggest difference.
3. A Cozy, Inviting Atmosphere (Candles Included)
The simple act of lighting a candle increasses the cozy factor of your home by 100%. I like to have the same scent burning in a variety of spaces, but most especially by the door. First impression really do matter. An no one wants to smell your burnt bread!
Remember: we're aiming for connection over perfection and that starts when your guests are truly comfortable in your home. . Start with these small steps, and you’ll create gatherings that feel effortless, warm, and real.
