Overcoming Perfection

Growing up we were taught to belive that opening our homes required a spotless kitchen, a perfectly styled table, and a menu impressive enough to earn applause. Hosting was a performance - something to curate, polish, and control.

But here’s the truth: Perfection doesn’t make people feel welcome. Presence does.

The moments we remember most aren’t the ones where everything looked flawless. They’re the ones where someone made us feel special. The gatherings where everyone felt like they could relax and be themselves.

Letting go of perfection isn’t lowering the bar.

It happens in small ways:

• When you serve something simple and cozy instead of something complicated.

• When you let the night unfold without trying to control every moment.

• When you choose to sit down and connect instead of playing hostess.

Perfection impresses people for a moment. Hospitality welcomes them for a lifetime.

When we loosen our grip on getting everything “just right,” we make room for the things that truly matter.
